What can I say? This is my all-time favorite love song. This song is HEAVY on my heart (in a good way). This worship song humbles me and puts me in my place before the Lord. This song and performance is really dear to my heart.
In October 2008, I left Hawaii to follow God’s calling for me to be trained as a campus missionary in Manila, Philippines. It was one of the most intense three months of my entire life. So much things was weighing heavily upon my heart during this time frame that at times, it was overwhelming to the point of wanting to give up. And in the midst of one the lowest lows in life, my good friend Jessie sends me this vid via facebook. At the time I was by myself at Krispy Kreme and i watched the vid, and I full on began to tear up.
You see, I’ve had the privilege to disciple Patrick and Sean before I left for school, and to see them come this far in their walk with God really gave me the much needed encouragement to continue to move forward and not give up. God’s love for me at the moment was so overwhelming and unmistakable that tears began to flow from my eyes (right then and there in Krispy Kreme!). God really spoke to me that my labor in Him is not in vain and that I truly am making a difference in this world, and in the lives of those around me. To finally see the fruit beared from my life after six years volunteering in the ministry was the refreshing I needed and the confirmation to know that I am exactly where I need to be, and that is in the center of His will going into full-time ministry.
Two of the greatest things that I learned from God during the three months I was in the Philippines is this- Despite all of my shortcomings and all of my flaws, God still chose me according to His good plan and purpose; and that God’s grace is sufficient for me to move forward in His calling and purpose in my life. There is no way that I could work in this ministry and live this life without the power of the Holy Spirit. God’s love, His amazing grace, compels me to move forward and press on and to love others. My hope and prayer is that God’s love and His amazing grace would do the same in you too.
The previous tracks featured here on my mixtape covered different aspects of love, except one, that loving “feeling.” I spent a long time trying to choose the one song that I feel captures that loving feeling, and ultimately I chose this track from Twentyfour64. Love is so much deeper than just a feeling, but it’s unmistaken that it does play a role, and it is one of the things that compels us to outwardly express our love to others by our actions.

I really digg this song. It portrays a person being far from a loved one, and missing them dearly. Even though he’s thousands of miles away, in an awesome place like Paris and Rome, he’d rather be with the one he loves. Even with millions of people being amongst him, he’s still longing to be with that one he loves.
As for me, i can totally relate to this song. Yes, being “home” in the earthly sense, but more importantly… I want to be home with the Lord in heaven. Sometimes you just have those days (good, and not so good) where you desire to be away from this life and just be with God. We’ve all had those days, and even the apostle Paul had the same desire too. He writes to the church at Corinth in… 2 Corinthians 5:1-9…
Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

For ya’ll who don’t know me that well, I’m actually a big oldies fan. I really dig old school music, much of the modern musicians/producers sample or cover their music and its a shame that the youth of this day do not know these talented cats. With that said, this song captures a certain aspect of love that brings excitement and courage. Much respect to those whom took that step of faith of the pursuit of someone special, especially those whom gone the extra mile to woo their lovely. “Sober Love” compels us to pursue the right person, but doing so in the right timing with pure motives. My charge to men is this, lets be of good character and integrity as we pursue that special someone, and let’s do so with sober judgment and with utmost respect. Bless.

The bible teaches us in 1 Corinthians 13:5 that “(Love) is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” Looking into my own life, and searching my own heart of my failures, sometimes I get so caught up with condemnation that I lose sight of God’s promise for me. But the truth is that in Romans 8:1-2, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.” So if you have a personal relationship with Christ you can rest assured that you are forgiven of our sins and He keeps no record of wrongs against you. When we find ourselves entangled in sin, we must acknowledge and confess to God of our sins and failures, and His promise for us is this “… He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” God gives us second chances, third, fourth, fifth chance, etc. His grace and mercy covers us.
This direct act that Jesus did for us on the cross should spur us to do just same to others. And that is to forgive others, keep no record of wrongs, and give others second chances… This is God’s call for us…
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. -Colossians 3:12-14
Yes, it is hard to keep no record of wrongs but by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit- He will sustain and empower us to live a holy life. Be strong and express love by keeping no record of wrongs.

I seen and heard this video for the first time at service a year or so ago. Its a powerful testimony, and a great declaration to the Lord that clearly portrays a heart that loves the Lord with their heart, mind, soul, body, and strength.
I’ve been mulling over what song to set off the series, and this song was one of the first songs on top of my list. So now I present to you my choice for February 1, 2009… Setting the standard of what it means to love… the kinda of love that overwhelms and transforms hearts. In 2 Peter 1:20-21, the bible teaches us that “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” So with that said the book of the prophet Isaiah written somewhere between 740-680 bc, foretells Jesus’ life in Isaiah 52:7- 53:12. Reading this scripture you would receive a greater understanding of Jesus’ purpose in life and I hope it causes a stirring in your heart to respond with loving Him in return.

I was asked by Lofa to be part of the Valentine’s Mixtape series alongside of Lofa, Kavet the Catalyst, Nicole of Prototype, and Jessie of Atypical Living. I thought it was a fresh idea… so for the 14 days days till Valentines I will be posting up some of my favorite love songs.
The basic premise that I will be choosing my songs are based off of one of my favorite scriptures from the bible. Why the bible? The bible teaches us in 2 Timothy 3:16-17- “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” In a world where the word love and lust are used interchangeably, we need to dismiss the shallow and delve deeper into the true richness of the word love. So the bible here gives us clear understanding of what it means to love others.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.
These 14 points in this scripture here teaches, corrects, rebukes our thinking about what love is, in order that we are thoroughly equipped for every good work. As it is written, to love requires a deeper working in us first and it causes a response with our actions ultimately affecting others.
To further bring understanding to the scripture- 1 Corinthians was originally written in greek for the church at Corinth by the apostle Paul, and the word “love” is translated in greek (depending on its context) into three ways- eros, phileo, and agape. Eros is generally known as physical love, phileo is brotherly love, and lastly agape as divine love. For more in depth study of its meaning please go here and here.
